Most companies today are performing these risk assessments manually and then having to create word processed documents for each assessment.
The issues with this manual process is the collation of MSDS ( Material Safety Data Sheet) data for each chemical used in the applications being assessed, manually performing the calculation to determine the risk and then the creation of the finished assessment document.
The person responsible for the assessments finds this creation process a laborious chore and the staff who need access to the assessments have to hunt through filing cabinets or computer directories trying to find the correct and current assessment.
Essentially this manual process is time consuming, inefficient and exposes the company to a level of culpability dependent on the timeliness and accuracy of the assessments, and the staff finding the correct document.
QSI has developed RisQ in conjunction with one of our global chemical clients. This software is designed to remove this burden, to help lessen the business risk, and to protect staff from accidents or illness.
RisQ is accessed via a web browser making it immediately available to all of your employees without the need to deploy custom software to their desktops. RisQ uses a simple Wizard-based approach to combine materials data and process information to create a detailed risk assessment based on The Royal Society of Chemistry’s guidelines.
The user only needs to select the data requested by the wizard from dropdown lists populated from the RisQ database.
- Select the task which best describes how the materials are to be used.
- Select the entry which best describes the characteristics of the environment of the task.
- Select the Material(s) which will be used in this operation.
- Select the quantity of the Material(s).
- Add comments.
RisQ will then automatically calculate the risk and create the finished risk assessment which, when approved, will be readily available to all staff who need access. The required review date for the assessment will be automatically set thus ensuring that the review cannot be overlooked.
